As part of this class, we are organizing The Huntsville Arts Initiative: Walking with Giants — a community art event showcasing local Huntsville artists through collaborations with the SHSU Honors College, Art Department, and local organizations including IMERJ (Be Free Gallery), which supports incarcerated artists, Splintercraft, and Compton’s Letterpress Artisan Guild (C.L.A.G.).
On a broader scale, our collaboration with Houston-based artist and Texas Commission on the Arts member Angelbert Metoyer, who will serve as juror for the show, reflects our commitment to fostering professional growth and elevating local art initiatives through meaningful community engagement.
Our goal is to bridge SHSU and the Huntsville community by creating a space where artists, students, and local businesses can share their work and connect with new audiences. With cross-promotion from university departments and support from the Honors College and Art Department, we anticipate a strong turnout from both SHSU students and the broader Huntsville community.
