In commemoration of the Gibbs-Powell House's 150th birthday, the Walker County Historical Commission will host a homecoming and reception at the house on September 29, 2012. Join the Walker County Historical Commission as they celebrate the birthday of this historic Huntsville Home. Built in the Greek Revival style in 1862 by business pioneer Thomas Gibbs and wife, Mary Sophia, it later became the property of attorney Benjamin Harrison Powell II and wife, Eleanor Inez. The house remained in the Powell family until 1984 when it was leased to Walker County for use as a museum.
A special commemorative booklet will tell the story of the house and those who have lived and visited.
