Huntsville Public Library and Sam Houston State University's Newton Gresham Library will co-host "Preserving Family Memories". The presentation will include two workshops, the first in the morning and the second following a lunch break, and attendees can choose to attend both or just one of the workshops.
"Preserving Family Memories-Non Digital Photographs and Other Materials" will be presented in the Huntsville Library Community Room from 9-11:30 a.m. by Felicia Williamson, MLIS, CA, who serves as the head of Thomason Special Collections at the Newton Gresham Library.Topics will include basic preservation with respect to records environment, storage methods, insects and other sources of decay; preserving newspaper clippings; and identifying and preserving photographs.
"Preserving Family Memories- Digital and Other Materials" will be presented in the Huntsville Public Library Community Room from 1-3pm by James Williamson, JR., MLIS,CA, a Digital Resources Librarian with Newton Gresham Library. Topics covered will include the basics of digitization equipment; format standards; naming and organization of digital files; digital preservation and storage.
Pre-registration by November 6 is required for attendees who with to receive lecture handouts.
