We are honored to be hosting Dr. Carolina Castillo Crimm on September 26, 2016 here at Carriage Inn - Huntsville to speak to us about Texas History. The presentation begins at 1:00 pm, and the summary of her presentation is below.
Summary - The Spanish Mission fathers established a string of missions along the San Antonio River as a means of keeping the native Indians out of New Spain. How they survived and continue to exist until today has been an amazing feat of faith and engineering.
Dr. Carolina Castillo Crimm, born and raised in Mexico City, Mexico, came to the United States at 17. She holds degrees from the University of Miami,Texas Tech University and completed her Ph.D. in Latin American History at the The University of Texas at Austin. Among her many books and articles is the award-winning De León: A Tejano Family History (2004). During her forty years in teaching, she has won numerous awards including the prestigious Piper Award as one of the best teachers in Texas. She has recently retired and been honored as a Professor Emeritus in History from Sam Houston State University for her work with her students, her university and her community. Carolina currently lives in Huntsville, Texas with her husband, Jack.
